The United Nations Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs is an international treaty to limit the availability of certain drugs. The Convention is one of four conventions on good governance which are included in the GSP+ regulation.
The UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs was adopted in 1961 and entered into force in December 1964. The Convention aims at tackling drug abuse through limiting the availability of certain drugs and international cooperation. The availability of drugs shall be restricted through limiting the possession, use, trade in, distribution, and production of drugs to medical/scientific purposes. While stronger international cooperation aims at discouraging drug traffickers. The UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is responsible for the supervision and monitoring of the effective implementation of the Convention in each country. It also coordinates with domestic authorities where necessary. The Single Convention is part of the conventions on good governance covered by the GSP+ regulation.
